THE NEXT STEP FUN FACTS by Danilo Promotions

THE NEXT STEP FUN FACTS

GET TO KNOW THE NEXT STEP A LITTLE BETTER WITH THESE 9 AWESOME FACTS!

1. THERE ARE NO LINES

The Next Step doesn’t use traditional scripts, where the dialog is written and the cast memorizes them.  Instead, The Next Step scripts only say what happens in each scene, with specific dialog written only for plot purposes. Otherwise, the dialog is completely improvised between the cast, writers, and showrunners/executive producers on set. It’s a pretty cool way of filming if you ask us!

2. THE CAST NEEDS TO BE ABLE TO PICK UP CHOREO FAST

The cast only has a short amount of time to get the choreography down. In fact, sometimes the choreography changes the day of filming! This means that the dancers need to be able to pick up choreo in a matter of minutes!

3. THE “WHY DO YOU DANCE?” PART OF THE SHOW USES CASTS ANSWERS #IRL

Auditions for The Next Step are held in Toronto, usually a month or two before the season starts filming. The "why do you dance?" part that's featured on the show is a real question asked in auditions. The answer the cast gives is often used as the actual answer in the show.

4. ONE SCENE AT A TIME

It’s only possible to film one scene at a time. This is because the sets are all next to each other in a big studio. Each set/room has no ceilings and the fake walls allow for sound to travel between them really easily. For example, if you’re standing in the rehearsal room you can hear anything anyone is saying in Shakes & Ladders.

6. EVERY FRIDAY IS #FRITTERFRIDAY

It’s a tradition to have Apple Fritters on set every Friday. While no one really knows how the tradition started, it’s been a staple on The Next Step since the filming of season one.  Members of the crew take turns each Friday bringing in Apple Fritters for everybody on set. The cast and crew gobble them up petty fast so it’s always a race to get one before it’s too late! #FritterFriday

7. YES, THE CAST HAS HOMEWORK
Most of the cast of The Next Step is in high school. Sometimes when school and filming overlap, they have a tutor who visits the set for a certain number of hours every week. Nobody gets out of homework. Not even The Next Step cast!

8. THE SEASON 6 PROM EPISODE WAS SHOT IN ONE DAY!

Cast and crew spent the entire day filming The Next Step’s prom! It was incredibly exciting! Some cast members had never had a prom and thought this was the next best thing!

9. SOMETIMES THE CAST CHOREOGRAPH’S A DANCE

Original Steppers like Riley (Brittany Raymond), James (Trevor Trodjman), Eldon (Isaac Lupien) and others often return to the set of The Next Step to choreograph new numbers for the series!
